Facelift
When done expertly, a facelift can take years off your appearance in a way that looks completely natural. At Renaissance Plastic Surgery, our surgeons have performed numerous successful facelift surgeries – each customized to the individual for a more youthful look that is not tight or drawn.
Prior to your surgery, we will consult with you and give you an honest assessment of what can be accomplished with a face lift. Our goal is to help you look like a younger version of yourself without any obvious signs of cosmetic surgery.

A facelift can:
• Tighten lax skin on the face
• Lift sagging skin and muscle in the cheek and chin areas
• Smooth lines, wrinkles, and folds such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines
• Tighten the jaw line and reduce jowls
• Correct hollowing of the cheeks
• Remove or lessen bands in the neck
A facelift concentrates on the face below the eyes. If you have lines and wrinkles around the eyes or on the forehead, an eyelid lift might be helpful. This procedure is sometimes performed in conjunction with a facelift.
Are there visible scars after a facelift?
There are a variety of facelift techniques, but the incisions are usually hidden behind the ear or under the hair.
What happens during a facelift?
A mini facelift or a full facelift can be performed. A mini facelift is appropriate for those with less significant signs of aging, as a smaller incision is made, and less skin is tightened.
In a full facelift, a substantial amount of skin and excess tissue may be excised, as well as tightened. The skin and muscle is then redraped for a tighter, more youthful but natural appearance.
A facelift can be performed on an outpatient basis. Full facelifts are usually performed under general anesthesia with an anesthesiologist in the operating room to monitor you throughout the procedure, and someone must be available to drive you home.
Prior to your surgery, we will give you full pre- and post-operative instructions and will advise you of our surgical plan for you.’
What can you expect after a facelift?
Most patients take 1-2 weeks off from work after a facelift. If you have had a full facelift, you will almost certainly require the full 2 weeks to recover. Bruising, swelling, and some post-surgical pain are inevitable. We will provide you with a prescription for pain medication, and you will visit us for follow-up appointments so that we can make sure you are healing properly.
Your head will be bandaged, and we will ask you to sleep with your head elevated for a few days to minimize swelling. You should refrain from exercise for at least 2 weeks after your surgery.
Is a facelift right for you?
If you are bothered by significant signs of aging, a facelift may be a good option for you. In consultation with our surgeons, you will discover whether the surgery is necessary or if a non-surgical procedure such as Botox of dermal fillers can provide you with the results you want.
While facelifts are long lasting, the aging process does not stop. New wrinkles can develop, and additional sagging of the skin can occur over time. Some patients choose to have a subsequent facelift in 7-8 years after the first.
“I am post facelift (1 month). Dr. McLendon did an excellent job. He is very skilled and is compassionate, understanding and explains procedures very well. He also has an excellent staff and his nurse Charmaine is an angel. I would do it again and have no regrets. I highly recommend him!”
